Choose where the colour lives
At our fictional Casa Roja, red belongs to the walls that gather around the courtyard. It gives the open space a clear boundary and makes the pale floor feel brighter. The rooms do not need an equally strong gesture at every turn. A consistent material or colour can carry through a home while still leaving some places calm and simple.
Notice what the light changes
A wall can look very different beside an open doorway, under a roof or reflected in water. When viewing a home with a distinctive palette, spend a moment looking at those differences. Ask how the rooms feel at other times of day. A favourite colour on a small sample is a starting point; a whole room adds light, texture and scale.
Make space for your own things
Try placing your furniture, books and artwork into the picture. A house with a strong character should still leave room for the person who lives there. In Casa Roja, broad stretches of wall and simple built-in seating provide that pause. The architecture makes a confident first impression, then gives everyday objects somewhere to belong.
